Pellet mills receive various types of biomass wastes. Biomass wastes are wastes such as saw dust that most people let go in to waste yet they can be effectively utilized for production of energy. They then perform various processes on these raw materials such as sorting, grinding, drying, and compressing them so as to produce fuel pellets. The process of manufacturing varies according to the raw materials but generally the manufacturer will receive the raw material, screen, grind, dry, pelletize, cool, sift and package the pellet fuel for home use.

There are various brands and models of pellet fuel making equipments. Each pellet making machine has its own way of operation. Generally, all the pellet making machines work in the same basic way that is placing under high pressure ground biomass and then forcing g it through round opening that is referred to as die.  When it is exposed to the ideal conditions, the biomass will fuse together to form solid mass. This process is referred to as extrusion.  Some of the biomass especially wood forms fuel pellets of high quality. Some other biomass types may require additives so that pellets can be bound together. (more…)

Pellet making machine is used in the production of animal feeds or wood pellets on large scale basis or small scale.  Depending on the process of production that you want to undertake, you should ensure that you wisely choose your equipment.  For large scale production of animal pellets or wood pellets, there are major types of machines to choose from namely the ring diet pellet machinery and the flat die pellet machinery. The difference between these two types of equipments arises from the way in which they work. For example, the flat die pellet mills have flat dying with slots in which the pressing involves pressing by the roller while the die rates thus forcing the matter through small holes that are within the die.  Next, the yet to be pellets get through holes whereby there is a cutter that cuts them to pellets.

How are pellets made? This is a question that is frequently asked by many people. Here below are some few tips as to how it is done. (more…)

  • 2013-04-22Wood Pellets Burning Tips

TipsWood pellets technology is aimed at encouraging the god use of the waste materials. By use of pellet making machine or pellet mill, wood shavings and sawdust are compressed in to pellets until they finally become wood stoves fuel.  As is the case with all the other kinds of wood, to efficiently use pellets you need knowledge of stoves. You also need to know how to properly work with them. (more…)

  • 2013-04-19How to Define Good Quality Biomass Pellets

In the United States and European pellet fuel market there are several industrial standards as regards the production of good quality biomass pellets.  If you want to sell your pellet products in these markets, you should clearly set out their standards.  If your product does not meet their standards it may not be welcome.  However, generally, the quality of pellets is generally determined based on two major aspects – moisture content and mechanical durability.

Biomass is mainly derived from various types of organic matter such as forestry and energy plants (e.g. Oil seeds and plants that contain sugar), urban waste, and agricultural waste including household and wood waste.  Biomass can also be used for electricity production heating, and for the transportation of biofuels. The biomass may also be solid (e.g. straw, wood, plants and other plants), liquid or gaseous.  Biomass use has also been linked to reduction in the levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

  • 2013-04-16The Economic Value of Pellet Fuel

Pellet fuel has become highly popular because of its high economic value especially with regard to the safety to the environment.  The price of pellet fuel has managed to remain stable even when there are serious price fluctuations in the international price of crude oils and gas.  First, the pellets are friendly to the environment. The burning and combustion of fossil fuels leads to the emission of carbon dioxide in to the atmosphere. The pellets are carbon dioxide neutral. The emission of sulfur dioxide by pellet fuel is also lower as compared to that of fossil fuels.
